A contour survey maps a site's elevation changes as a series of lines connecting points of equal height. What a Contour Survey Delivers

A quote covering only an orthomosaic image is not the same as a quote covering a full DTM, contour set, and point cloud, even if the per-acre price looks similar. Always confirm exactly what deliverables are included before comparing prices.

Why Builders Cannot Skip This Step

Foundation depth, drainage routing, retaining wall placement, and even the earthwork budget all depend on knowing the site's actual elevation profile before design starts. A contour survey done early prevents redesign later, and pairs naturally with a broader drone survey when the same site also needs boundary or feature mapping.

A 1-meter contour interval works for general site planning on gently sloped land. Ask your surveyor to match the interval to what your architect or engineer specifically needs, rather than defaulting to whatever is cheapest.
