Notice that only two of these six, graduated symbol and chart, can show more than one thing at once. Most techniques are built to communicate a single variable clearly. Trying to cram three data dimensions into a single-symbol map usually just produces clutter nobody can read.
Match the Technique to the Data Type
Land use type, residential, commercial, forest, has no natural numeric order, so unique value symbolization is the obvious fit, each category gets its own distinct colour with no implied ranking. Population density, on the other hand, is inherently ordered, so graduated colour or graduated symbol communicates the progression far better than arbitrary category colours ever could.

Dot density is deceptively powerful because it shows both magnitude and spatial pattern simultaneously, each dot represents a fixed quantity, and where dots cluster, so does the underlying phenomenon.
